  The Inner Mongolia Grassland Ecosystem Station (IMGERS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in the Xilin River Basin, Inner Mongolia (43°38' N, 116°42' E, 1100 m a.s.l). It was established in 1979. It became one of the key stations of the Cinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) in 1992 and was promoted to one of the national field stations in 2005. In addition, it was concecutively awarded as an excellent field stations of CERN during 2001-2005 and 2006-2010. The work of the IMGERS is focused on (1) longterm monitoring of the key biotic and abiotic factors driving typical steppe ecosytem processes, (2) studies on the structures and function of the ecosystem , biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and ecosystem responses and feedbacks to global change, and (3) development of practical techniques for grassland ecosystem management, especially for sustainable resources utilization, grassland restoration, and artificial pasture establishment.
